We are approaching the hottest months in Arizona, especially in the more urban areas like Phoenix. Daytime temperatures regularly exceed °100F/°38C. If you are not familiar with this climate, please keep in mind the following tips:
Always cover your head with a hat or cap, etc. These are available at the ASU bookstore if you need to purchase one.
Wear sunscreen with at least 50 SPF. Included in your CoLang tote-bag is a packet of sunscreen. You can find sunscreen at the local CVS (at the corner of University and Mill - please walk there after sunset).
Stay hydrated. Fill. Drink. Repeat. Drink water even when you are not thirsty. Thirst and sweating are late signs of dehydration. This is a very low-humidity environment, which means you often do not notice how much water your body loses when you sweat.
Limit your time outdoors during the daylight hours. It may be tempting to go for a walk in some of our beautiful surroundings, but being overcome by heat exhaustion if you’re not prepared.
In addition to the CoLang website, we’re also active on various social media platforms, including Facebook, and Instagram. We encourage you to share your experiences and photos with the hashtag #colang2024.
We also have a Discord server, which is a chat-based application where participants and facilitators can post and share files in different ‘channels’. Below is a link to directly access the Discord server. If you haven’t used Discord before you will have to create an account. It is web-based but there is an app for your phone, tablet or computer that you can download.
